The Power of Consistency: 5 Science-Backed Reasons Why Consistency Matters in Your Wellness Routine

Spring is just around the corner. Around this time of year, it’s common for a lot of us to fall away from the routines we started in January. This blog is going to help you reconnect with your intentions and the promises you made yourself.

Today, we're diving deep into the science behind consistency and why it's absolutely crucial for your wellness journey. First, let’s talk about why consistency matters; then we’ll get into actionable tips you can put to use in your own life.

Why does consistency matter, from a scientific perspective?

1. Consistency reinforces neural pathways and facilitates long-term habit formation. Consistently repeating a behavior strengthens the habit loop in your brain, making it more likely to become automatic and ingrained into your daily routine over time.

2. Consistency enhances motivation. Repeated effort leads to increased motivation levels as each small win reinforces the belief in your ability to achieve your goals, fueling further action.

3. Consistency promotes brain plasticity. Activities like meditation and exercise promote neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to reorganize and adapt, leading to improved cognitive function and emotional resilience.

4. Consistency helps us regulate our hormones. Maintaining consistent sleep patterns, exercise routines, and dietary habits helps regulate hormone production, leading to improved mood, energy levels, and overall well-being. Regular physical activity and healthy eating habits boost energy levels by improving circulation, oxygenating tissues, and stabilizing blood sugar levels throughout the day.

5. Consistency with self-care practices can help enhance emotional stability. Mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and activities like floating, sauna, contrast therapy, and massage can help regulate emotions, reduce stress, and promote a greater sense of inner peace and well-being.

Consistency fuels long-term success. So, how can you apply this in your own life? Let’s look at a few ways you can create more consistency in your Capitol Floats routine.

  1. Schedule out your appointments in advance. Plan ahead and make it a non-negotiable part of your schedule.

  2. Ask a friend for accountability or go with a friend to make each appointment even more fun and motivating!

  3. Create a weekly ritual. Designate a specific day and time each week to create something you look forward to and can rely on to reset and recharge.

  4. Track your progress. Keep a wellness journal to jot down insights and breakthroughs and/or create a vision board and keep it somewhere visible. Celebrate your progress!

  5. Prepare mindfully. Before each float session, take a moment for meditation or visualization. By approaching each session with intention, you'll boost its impact and stay committed to consistency.

  6. Attend in-person events for an even deeper connection to the community. We host events at our Sacramento location on or around the new moon every month!

By implementing these simple strategies, you'll be well on your way to incorporating more consistency into your wellness routine!
